Sega Enterprises and its parent company, CSK, will invest a whopping five billion yen in the development of a data center in Japan, according to the Nihon Kezai Shimbun. The facility will hold over 4,000 servers and will provide a throughput of 600 megabits per second. This is all part of Sega's plan to boost the disappointing Japanese revenue generated from its Dreamcast console sales by focusing more heavily on its Internet business, including the online transmission of games.
Sega's Internet partner, Isao Corp., will share the facility's resources, using one-third of the center. The other two-thirds will be rented out to non-group firms.
