April 1 - Tamagotchi maker Bandai says it will begin producing an electronic version of rock, paper, scissors.
The electronic toy consists of a control pad, a backpack unit, and a glove. The player chooses either rock, scissors, or paper on his control pad, and his choice is communicated to his backpack unit, which then signals his glove to form either rock, paper, or scissors.
Backpack units are linked for multiplayer games. Bandai says a small shock will be administered to the loser.
The purpose of this device is to eliminate disputes over which hand signal was chosen. An adult version would run as laptop software and come with a PCMCIA card and glove.
