Wrestler Flip Gordon Talks Transforming Into The Mercenary
Wrestler Flip Gordon Talks Transforming Into The Mercenary-May 2024
May 4, 2025 12:58 AM

Ring of Honor wrestler Flip Gordon has reinvented himself lately, now working under the guise of The Mercenary. Currently, he's now aligned with Villain Enterprises and has a championship match at the upcoming ROH event "Death Before Dishonor."

His evolution into The Mercenary was a quick one, but it's a role he understands and has had a connection to on some level for years. "I got out of the military last year, last May," Gordon told GameSpot. "And there was this void in my life because I was always used to the military lifestyle for the past six years. And so Marty kind of gave me that opportunity to almost have that lifestyle back and it was just the perfect fit. It was the perfect time. And I think it was the perfect change that I needed for not only my career but for myself.

"As The Mercenary, I know what my job is now. I'm given a job and given a task and once that task is completed I get paid. I'm not worried about anything else. I'm not worried about the fans. I'm not worried about any attention from anybody. I'm just worried about getting paid. A mercenary works for the highest bidder, whoever has the best offers is where I'll work. Right now, that's Villain Enterprise. For the foreseeable future, it looks like they are going to have the best offer."

Aside from Ring of Honor, Gordon currently appears on the VETV YouTube series, following the stable of Marty Scurll, Brody King, and PCO, where he's driving the group around, or getting fired by Scurll for ordering a steak medium-well done. The new series helps elevate the wrestlers outside of the weekly ROH show: "We want to be able to provide ourselves with a platform to show another side of us that you wouldn't get the opportunity to see with the 20 minutes, 10 minutes," Gordon told GameSpot. "Sometimes we're given, 'Just fight.'"

While Gordon has made a name for himself in the past year, especially at 2018's All In where he won the Battle Royale and faced Jay Lethal for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship, he's currently riding across the country with an exceptionally popular stable with some big names. "Marty is just the mastermind," Gordon said. "He's a genius when it comes to professional wrestling, not only as the technician, but as the character and he's helped me a lot. Brody's helped me a lot. Almost like the big brother and then PCO is just, he's not human so you can learn a lot from somebody who's not human. And it's just, I think with all four of us we may just complete each other. We each have strengths that complement each other, and I think together we're just the total package."

Gordon will be competing for the World Television Championship match at the Death Before Dishonor PPV on September 27. He'll be taking on Tracy Williams and champion Shane Taylorin a three-way battle for the title. Gordon says he's not worried, and it should be easy for him, as he's beaten both his competitors in the past.

Ring of Honor's Death Before Dishonor PPV can be watched on Fite.tv. The show begins at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET and costs $35 through Fite. If you're a member of Honor Club, you can receive 50% off your purchase for the event.
