Several areas of Ion Storm's Quake II-engine RPG were seen this morning. Players view the game from a third-person perspective and lead character around by using cursor commands. Interactions with NPCs promise to use both full speech and text, although players can turn off the text. Outside these conversations, the story progresses through the use of in-game cutscenes.
The battle sequences appear similar in style to Square's Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger, but instead of transporting the characters into another setting, the fight stays in the normal environment. The attack menu is currently icon based and rotates around the character when called up.
Company reps report that they'll provide players with the tools to make their own side-quest and minigames to share with others, and that they're hoping to ship it during the fourth quarter this year.
