Created by British developer Hothouse, Abomination - The Nemesis Project seems to mix elements of H.P. Lovecraft and X-Com. In this squad-based game, you control a team of black-ops super soldiers investigating the source of a plague that's spread like wildfire across America. At first, it appears as though the virus was started by a cult named The Fallen, but you soon learn that they're simply the foot soldiers for a race of Lovecraftian beings called The Brood, who live in large underground cities.
In the single-player game, you can control four people per squad, but in the game's multiplayer modes (which include deathmatch, capture the flags, cooperative, and play over e-mail), the number of squad members can reach eight. Players can equip soldiers with more than 150 different military and experimental weapons. Eidos is pushing Abomination's replay value as the game sits atop a gamer generator that randomly generates one of 1.2 million unique missions. Multiplayer fans will have all the standard modes of play through a LAN, the Internet, a modem and serial connection for up to eight players.
Abomination - The Nemesis Project is due out in September.
