Turtle Beach, a company primarily known for its sound cards, came to E3 with something different this time around. The company is in the process of trying out different markets, and it found quite a niche in high-end headphone and microphone setups. We met with representatives to discuss their upcoming Ear Force DXT, Ear Force AXT, and Montego DDL.
Turtle Beach's Ear Force DXT headset establishes another high for the company. The DXT comes with coaxial, optical, and analog inputs, all of which are capable of surround sound. The included decoder box is capable of decoding Dolby Digital and outputs Dolby Pro Logic II for stereo sources. The unit can also accept two headphone inputs and has a set of surround analog outputs. The headphones provide amazing surround sound for consoles, PCs, and more. The DXT also has a removable and highly adjustable microphone. Expect to see the Ear Force DXT in stores in July of 2005 for a suggested retail price of $149.99
The Ear Force AXT is the smaller sibling to the DXT. Turtle Beach will give the AXT a considerably lower price point of $79.95. The AXT isn't capable of 5.1 surround sound, but it does provide convincing virtual surround sound. The headset will most likely provide an amazing experience with the attached adjustable microphone
Not to leave the sound cards completely behind, Turtle Beach announced the Montego DDL. The sound card will be based on the C-Media 8768 chipset, and it can encode Dolby Digital sound out of any source. Turtle Beach gave the Montego DDL a number of connectivity options: optical out, optical in, surround analog outs, line in, and mic in. The Montego DDL supports 7.1 and outputs 24-bit/96KHz sound.
