Back in 1985, most computer gamers were signing the tune of The Bard's Tale, the groundbreaking role-playing game from legendary designer Brian Fargo. Nearly 20 years later, Fargo's new company, InXile Entertainment, has released a new version of The Bard's Tale. The company announced today that the game has shipped for the Xbox and PlayStation 2, and will be arriving in stores shortly.
Unlike the original game, which was a straight-faced fantasy role-playing game, the new version is a Champions of Norrath-style action RPG with a humorous twist. Most of said humor comes in the form of the Bard, voiced by The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes, a wandering minstrel who, by InXile's own admission, prefers "coin and cleavage" to any form of noble endeavor.
