Linden Lab, creator of the 3D online "digital world" software Second Life, this week announced that the developer has secured a round of additional financing. Venture capital group Benchmark Capital led the $8 million round of financing, and Omidyar Network, a new organization led by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, participated alongside other investors. Second Life is a 3D online community in which players can create "almost anything [they] can imagine." The software can be downloaded for free, but requires a $9.95 fee to play.
