Hasbro's High Spirits-May 2024
May 3, 2025 9:36 PM

There was yesterday's news that the company had finalized its acquisition of Tiger Electronics - the maker of Laser Tag and the Giga Pet.

Today Hasbro announced that it (and its affiliates) landed more titles on PC Data's list of the 25 top-selling PC games for December 1997 than any other publisher; seven of the company's titles made that list. Those titles: Frogger (which came in as the seventh-best-selling title on PC Data's list), Tonka Search and Rescue (which came in at eleventh place), Monopoly (13), Scrabble (17), Tonka Construction (20), Battleship (23), and Monopoly Star Wars (24). That showing helped the company rise to the level of the fourth-largest PC games publisher based on units sold. For 1996, the company was in 14th place.

Hasbro is also using Toy Fair to announce a number of upcoming PC titles: Tonka Workshop, which sees a key-top "workbench" overlaid atop a computer keyboard and allows children to control the action on their screen; a pair of products based on the DreamWorks film Small Soldiers, one of which will let players customize and train for battle their own Gorgonite and Commando action figures from the movie and the other of which is a more traditional action-strategy title; Tonka Garage, which enables children to design, build, and customize their own fleet of Tonka vehicles; new versions of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! for the PC and PlayStation, based on their respective TV game shows; and interactive versions of board game titles Game of Life, Operation, Sorry!, Mastermind, Outburst, Axis & Allies, Stratego, and Trivial Pursuit II.
