PopCap Games revealed last week the results of its survey of on-the-job casual gameplay habits for white-collar workers. One of the primary reasons cited by the one-in-four slackers for mentally vacating with games at work was stress relief. Running with that theme, Electronic Arts announced that Dr. Kathleen Hall of The Stress Institute has teamed up with its casual games destination Pogo.com to help raise awareness of the positive impact of gaming on stress. According to The Stress Institute, playing games on Pogo yields a number of health benefits. Those who play Poppit or Lottso! Deluxe may be able to lower their blood pressure or ward off anxiety, depression, and disease. Word Whomp and Tumble Bees could improve overall brain health due to the mental exercises. EA and The Stress Institute are also claiming that Pogo's online community itself could help individuals overcome fears of social rejection and that game victories can help with players' self-esteem.
