This is one of those rare invaders who won’t spawn if you stay on the main path to the next boss. To make him notice you, you’ll need to break through a set of boxes that’s obscuring an alternate path in the Dragon Shrine (it’s near the stone gazebo that houses the only priestess in the map). This new route is linear so you won’t miss the Invader notification at this point--you’ll most likely get it as you ascend the circular staircase. You don’t want a fight on the stairs, so either force your way to the top or get Dragonfang Villard to meet you at the bottom of the stairs.
You should be able to make short work of him since he moves just like Aslatiel of Mirrah. He even looks like Aslatiel, only with dragon-themed equipment. His sword has a slightly longer reach and is only a real threat when wielded with two hands.

In terms of difficulty, the Ancient Dragon in the Dragon Shrine is a stark contrast to the ease of taking on the Guardian Dragon. For many, this legendary beast will be one of your toughest fights in the entire game. There are many things you need to be mindful of when fighting the Ancient Dragon, but your main focus should be its wings. To be specific, when you see its wings flap, be ready to run for your life, as far away from the dragon as possible. Nine times out of ten, the dragon will fly up to breathe flame that will encompass a large circular area (other times, it’s merely changing position). We typically consider the mist portal as safe enough distance, but once in a while, the dragon will be extra cruel and fly toward your direction making its flame 100% inescapable.
This turns the battle into a lesson in stamina management and conservancy. When it comes to escaping a flame attack from the air, there’s no hope of survival if you can’t sprint away. You also need to quickly recharge your stamina as the dragon lands so you can sprint back to him and resume your attacks. His flame attacks on the ground are prime opportunities to go on the offense. As a good rule of thumb, you can squeeze in one extra move after the dragon is out of fire. After that, just keep a watchful eye for its wings in the likely chance it will fly up. Don’t be surprised if it takes to the air twice in a row.
In terms of physical attacks, its foot stomp is slow enough that you should be able to avoid it with ease. What you really have to look out for is its sweeping bite, which starts with the dragon swinging its head to its right, then sweeping on a downward path to its left. Depending on your position, rolls forward, backward, and to the side all work, provided you’ve anticipated the attack early enough.
