Media attorney Jim Charne was named the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences' new president and exec director.
From 1988 to 1994, Charne was the vice president of legal and business affairs and the general counsel of Absolute Entertainment Inc., a company that developed software for Nintendo and Sega. He also had his own entertainment law practice.
Charne's duties with the nonprofit organization will include strategic direction and expansion of the academy's membership base.
Charne will also oversee the academy's 1998 awards show, scheduled for May at the E3 show in Atlanta.
Representatives from Broderbund, Creative Capers Entertainment, DreamWorks Interactive, Electronic Arts, Hasbro Interactive Worldwide, IDSA, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Sega of America, Simutronics Corp., Twin Lights Studio, the Washington Post Co., Westwood Studios, and Yellow Raincoat Studios sit on the academy's board of directors. The Academy was founded in 1996.
