The PlayStation Portal launched today, November 15. If you're interested in picking one up, you'll have to be quick. Preorders had been sold out for weeks, and release-day restocks at major retailers have also been selling out. Amazon has already sold out on multiple occasions today alone. At the time of writing, however, all major retailers are sold out of the Remote Play handheld. We'll continue to update this roundup as stock is replenished.
Previously known as Project Q, the PlayStation Portal syncs to your console via Wi-Fi to offer a new way to access your games anywhere in your house. PlayStation is releasing a new pair of headphones and earbuds in the Pulse line intended for the PlayStation Portal--though it's possible to use the new gear on PS5 and PC, too. Both the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds are available to preorder now.
The PlayStation Portal is essentially a DualSense controller with an 8-inch LCD screen between the joysticks. It offers adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and supports a resolution of 1080p at 60fps. You’ll also benefit from a 3.5mm jack, allowing you to connect a headset for multiplayer games.

Keep in mind that this is a streaming device, meaning you’ll need a fast (and reliable) internet connection to get the most use out of the handheld. Sony notes that this is designed as a “device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play games in another room of the house.”
While it was already possible to stream PS5 games using Remote Play, the PlayStation Portal takes advantage of a brand-new wireless technology called PlayStation Link. PlayStation says the new tech offers low latency and lossless audio, which should ideally result in smooth gaming sessions when away from your PS5.
However, the new PlayStation Link feature means that the Portal won't support Bluetooth headphones. If you want private listening while gaming on the handheld, you'll have to opt for the aforementioned new PlayStation Elite headset or Pulse Explore earbuds.
