Today at E3 we briefly got to play a portion of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. The game is a purely arcade-style brawler for one or two players, and of course you can choose from any of the four turtles. You'll have a weak and strong attack that you can use to form a variety of combos, and in the two-player mode you can join together to perform extensive multiple-hit combos. You can also pick up special secondary weapons like shurikens to use against the hordes of enemies.
TMNT looked and controlled very well. The game's use of cel-shading made it look very much like a cartoon, and indeed the development team is modeling the game's look after the current television series. Attacking enemies is accompanied by a number of comic-book-style "crash" and "boom" effects popping up, which adds to the lighthearted feel of the game. Though we only got to play briefly, we were told the game will contain bosses from the cartoon series as well as original creations designed by the development team.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is shaping up to be a great throwback to the original TMNT brawling action games that many gamers will remember from their youth. We'll bring you more information and impressions on the game when we spend some more time with it.
