Kojima Productions site launches-May 2024
May 15, 2025 4:49 AM

TOKYO--Following its presentation in Los Angeles, Konami has opened the official Web site for Hideo Kojima's new development team, the modestly named Kojima Productions.

As GameSpot reported earlier, Kojima Productions fundamentally consists of the same developers that were previously at the Konami Computer Entertainment Japan development studio. That studio was merged into headquarters at the beginning of this business year, which means not only is Kojima no longer president of a Konami subsidiary, but he'll also be able to concentrate working on his games solely as a creator, something both he his fans are excited about.

Kojima released the following statement on his company's new site: "It has been 10 years since I started at Konami as a game designer and established the Kojima Team in Kobe. Over the last decade, we have leveraged Konami Computer Entertainment Japan's independence to create a variety of games. On April 1, 2005, our team reorganized as Kojima Productions. In the next 10 years, Kojima Productions will strive towards developing the highest quality and most creative games possible--making games based solely on the power of imagination."

Kojima Productions' site gives some additional details on the three games that were announcedjust yesterday: Metal Gear Acid 2 for the PSP, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for the PlayStation 2, and, last but definitely not least, Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PlayStation 3.

A trailer from Konami's briefing yesterday showed a glimpse of Metal Gear Acid 2, which seemed to have a more vibrant look than the original installment. Kojima Productions' site confirms that the game will adopt a new graphics engine, which will give a "dramatically new, comic book effect to the coloring and look of the game characters."

It will also feature an improved user interface, faster gameplay, more-comfortable controls, and, of course, additional new cards. All the staff from the original Metal Gear Acid will be returning to work on this sequel. Shinta Nojiri will provide game design and direction. Original character design will be done by Yoji Shinkawa, while Masao Tsubasa oversees character design. Finally, Noriaki Okamura from the Zone of the Enders team will be a producer on the game.

Kojima's site gives an overview of what was detailed on yesterday's announcement of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. The site explains that Metal Gear Solid 3's rerelease will be named "Subsistence" rather than "Substance," because that's exactly what the game is all about: survival. In addition to the previously reported features, Subsistence will also feature new and enhanced game modes, including duel mode and demo theater.

Kojima Production's site doesn't have much to say about Metal Gear Solid 4, aside from what was already announced yesterday. Contrary to previous reports that Kojima will be stepping aside from the title's creation, he will be working on its game design, production, and direction. Codirecting Metal Gear Solid 4 will be Shuyo Murata, who previously worked on Zone of the Enders: the 2nd Runner. Kenichiro Imaizumi will oversee production, and character design will once again be handled by Yoji Shinkawa.
