Global Gaming League kicks off 2004 tournament-May 2024
May 7, 2025 5:27 PM

Today the Global Gaming League announced the new season of its self-proclaimed "world's largest online gaming tournament." The season began on June 15 and coincided with the launch of the new GGL Web site.

Over $75,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to players of nine games in both team and one-on-one categories. There are five first-person shooters (Counter-Strike, Quake III, Unreal Tournament 2004, Call of Duty, and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory) and four real-time strategy games (Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Starcraft: Brood War, Age of Mythology: The Titans, and Age of Empires II: The Conquerors) in the tournament. The season, called GGL 2k4, will run for seven months.

The new Web site lets users communicate with other players through buddy lists and message boards and easily recruit and manage teams. It also features member feedback and challenging systems to help facilitate good sportsmanship and increased international competition. The front page also shows recent results, a schedule of future matches, and current rankings, so the world can see up-to-date results on gamers' glorious victories (or crushing defeats).

The GGL launched in August 2003. Interested players can register for free at www.ggl.com.
