GameStop Stores Will Be Closed Thanksgiving Day, But Black Friday Deals Are Starting Earlier-May 2024
May 11, 2025 4:54 AM

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, GameStop is following the lead of other major retailers, including Walmart and Target, by announcing its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year. Since 2017, GameStop has opened around 3 or 4 PM in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day to allow shoppers to start their Black Friday shopping early, so this announcement marks a return to GameStop's older practice of closing on the US holiday.

While you'll be able to shop in stores on Wednesday and Friday that week as usual, you'll also find Black Friday deals online and on GameStop's new mobile app. GameStop has not revealed when its Black Friday 2020 deals will start rolling out, but it did say in a press release that its biggest deals of the season will be available "earlier than ever before." That messaging is in line with what we're seeing at other retailers, with Best Buy offering Black Friday prices right now and Target confirming its Black Friday deals will begin November 1. GameStop will host more pre-Black Friday sales than usual leading up to the holiday weekend, so expect to see deals throughout the month of November, if not even earlier.

In addition to the Ship From Store option, you'll be able to order online and pick up your order in person during the busy Black Friday season. Same-day delivery will also be available "in select areas" for the first time this year.
