The gaming scene in Korea has long been associated with online gaming. Gamers there gravitate toward StarCraft, Lineage, Legend of Mir, Mu, and other clan-based online fighters. In fact, a recent study indicated that in Korea alone, there are some 200 MMORPGs in development--clearly, an already crowded market.
It may not come as a surprise, then, that a toolset designed to help developers streamline the development process (for both on and offline games, as well as console platforms) has picked up a Korea-based distributor.
South Carolina-based NDL today stated that it closed a deal with Gamebase, located in Seoul, Korea, to distribute its widely-used Gambryo 3D graphics toolkit and engine. Gamebase will handle sales of the toolset in Asia and Australia.
The statement went on to say Gamebryo already has at least two happy (and influential) customers in Korea. Nexon Corporation and Hanbit, both significant publishers in Korea, currently use the product in many of their games. In the U.S. market, the company counts Bethesda Softworks, Codemasters, Electronic Arts, and Vivendi Universal Games on its roster of companies using the Gamebryo tools.
