BOSS: SCORPIONESS NAJKA
Finding scorpioness Najka involves trekking to Shaded Woods, assuming you've figured out how to get there (it's near the point where Things Betwixt and Majula meet).

With a video game this large, you know that a burrowing boss is bound to appear, with some traditional patterns no less. When Najka is underground, she'll toss up sand to give away her location. Najka won't always burrow in your direction, but when she does, be ready to dodge.
Her toxic sting, delivered with a forceful downward tail attack, is painful, but is also easily avoidable due to its poor reach. She makes up for that with some lethal ranged attacks, the soul spear, a concentrated crystal soul geyser, and the hero-seeking homing soulmass spear. The time she spends charging these ranged spells creates an opening for you to melee attack. She is also vulnerable when her tail is stuck in the sand.
If you're a completionist who's curious about the mystery item on the corpse on top of the tree, note that the item is a flame butterfly (which allows you to light torches without a flame source). If you must have it, you will need to lure Najka to charge the tree to knock it down.

Beyond the first bonfire in Doors of Pharros awaits a nimble invader skilled in ranged attacks. Don't rush in--an aggressive dog rat and the tusked primal knight will come over to greet you. Advance further and a second dog rat should show up as well as the notification that the new invader has appeared.
Bowman Guthry is best dispatched through ranged attacks, especially when he's prone to dodge rolls and can be slippery up close. His bows' firing rate is high, but you can protect yourself by using one of the map's elevated surfaces as a natural shield as you strafe for an open shot. It pays to be aggressive since Guthry can prolong the fight by healing himself.

When you've died for the 10th time against the Royal Rat Authority, you'll be convinced that it's among the most challenging boss fights in the game. Yet despite its speed and size, this dog rat certainly has its weaknesses. Your first step should be to take out the four dog rats before the boss reaches you. The next move is to do away with any hope of killing the Royal Rat Authority from a distance, especially when its lunge attack is extremely effective and worse, soul crushing. That is not to say you can't use ranged attacks. The trick is to stay under the dog rat and attack from there. Always try to position yourself under the dog rat's lower half and move along with him as he tries to find you. Prepare to run toward him when he jumps backward. Staying under him will also give you the edge in avoiding his stomp attacks, which only come from the rat's front paws. Lastly, the Royal Rat Authority will spew toxic vomit when its HP is at 20 percent. Rather than run and regroup, you're often better off focusing on finishing him. If you have a green blossom, its stamina enhancement properties will allow you to squeeze in a couple of extra attacks.
