Developer Boneloaf has announced that it will independently publish Gang Beasts going forward. The game's previous publisher, Double Fine Presents, has been winding down since Double Fine's acquisition by Microsoft in June 2019.
"We love Double Fine and they have been really fantastic to us," Boneloaf wrote in a blog post. "What Tim and his company built is pretty wonderful, but with Double Fine Presents winding down due to Double Fine's acquisition by Xbox Game Studios last year, we think it is a good time for Boneloaf to stand on its own... legs and publish Gang Beasts ourselves."

Boneloaf added that it's currently working on build 1.13 for Gang Beasts, which "includes a modified version of the wheel stage with support for online game modes and a series of optimisations and fixes for UI, audio, costumes, gameplay, and achievements." The build will be available via Steam beta in July 2020. "We are also working on new stages and costumes," Boneloaf writes.
Double Fine has updated the Double Fine Presents page to confirm what founder Tim Schafer hinted at last year: The studio will no longer be publishing games going forward. "In 2019 we became part of Microsoft Game Studios, and as a result we will no longer be publishing games," Double Fine writes. "We hope to continue celebrating independent games however we can, through initiatives such as our annual festival Day of the Devs."
Samurai Gunn 2 is currently still scheduled to be published by Double Fine and release sometime in 2020--based on Double Fine's update, it will likely be the final game the studio publishes.
