Capcom Entertainment announced Thursday that Resident Evil 2 sold more than 380,000 copies during its first weekend at retailers - selling more than 60 percent of the original production run.
The title generated more than US$19 million in sales (surpassing the revenue for all but one Hollywood movie, Titanic, over the weekend).
"So far, Resident Evil 2 has broken records set by some of the biggest video games in the industry including Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider 2, and Super Mario 64," Robert Lindsey, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Capcom Entertainment, said. "Our major retailers have already reported sellout situations and have reordered at record-breaking speed."
