The Gigantic delay comes in part as a result of feedback from the game's testing periods.

"We've received lots of valuable feedback throughout our testing phases, and as we reflect on the things we must accomplish to meet the expectations we have set for ourselves, it is clear that we need to move the launch window for Giganticinto 2016," Motiga said.

"Unfortunately this change in schedule has meant Motiga had to make some difficult decisions this week," the studio said. "As a pre-revenue startup, our resources are finite. Stretching Gigantic development milestones over more time requires that we stretch those resources in the same fashion. As a result, today Motiga has had to lay off 16 employees at the studio. All impacted employees are receiving severances and job placement assistance."

Motiga went on to say that saying goodbye to the departing staffers is "painful," but the studio continues to be committed to "delivering Gigantic at the highest possible quality."

To that end, the studio will "soon" share an updated production roadmap for Gigantic. This will include insight into the "state and direction" of Gigantic. We'll have that information to you as it becomes available.

Gigantic pits two teams of five players against each other in a single map. Each team has a guardian, an enormous creature that can move around the map and possesses its own skillset. The goal of each team is to destroy the enemy team's guardian. Killing enemy heroes powers up the guardian and eventually prompts it to go on a rampage, wounding the enemy guardian and providing an opening for the team to deal some extra damage to it.

The game also supports cross-platform play between Xbox One and PC, which is quite rare. For more on Gigantic, watch the video above.
