Change is on the way to Xbox consoles, as this month's update will introduce keyboard mapping for select Xbox controllers, an easy way to import game captures from Xbox to edit in Clipchamp, and an experimental feature that'll make it easier to jump into a game with your friends from your profile.
Keyboard mapping will be available for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and the Xbox Adaptive Controller, allowing you to choose any button on your Elite Series 2 or port on your Xbox Adaptive Controller and remap it to your desired keyboard key.
Xbox keyboard mappingAn example of this in action would be mapping the left bumper to a keyboard letter or mapping modifier keys like Ctrl, Shift, Alt, and Win to a button, making it possible to perform actions like Ctrl + Shift + C with the press of a single button. Xbox says that there are over 100 games that support keyboard input on Xbox consoles, and nearly all games on PC are compatible.
For video editors, you will now be able to easily import your game captures from the Xbox network directly to Microsoft Clipchamp, the built-in video editor running on Windows PCs. Clipchamp now has a dedicated Xbox option, and after you use it to sign in to the Xbox Network, you can import game captures and start your editing process.
Alongside more preferences to share optional diagnostic data, the other feature being trialed is a social one. A random subset of users can now see what their friends are playing and jump into a game with them.
In other Xbox news, the gaming brand had a short but informative showcase this week focused on upcoming games from third-party developers. Some of the highlights include Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth going full Animal Crossing, the gameplay debut for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and the surprise launch of Ark: Survival Ascended on PC.
