The coronavirus (COVID19) outbreak has affected the release schedule of every major movie studio, and upcoming films continue to be delayed. The latest summer blockbuster to have its release date pushed is Top Gun: Maverick.

　　As reported by Deadline, Paramount will now release the long-awaited Top Gun sequel on December 23. This change comes less than a month after the release date was brought forward two days--but of course, a lot has happened since then. This isn't the first dramatic date change for Top Gun: Maverick either. It was originally set to arrive in July 2019, but the complexity of movie's aerial footage meant that it was delayed by 11 months. The film started production back in May 2018.

　　Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris. It's directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed Cruise in 2014's Oblivion.

　　Paramount has also announced a new release date for the horror sequel A Quiet Place: Part II. The film was due to hit theaters last month and was one of the first to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will now release on September 4. In addition, the animated comedy The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has been moved from May 22 to July 31.

　　Other movies that have had their theatrical releases postponed include No Time To Die, Black Widow, Mulan, and F9. In addition, a number of high profile films have had their production suspended, such as The Batman and Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
