According to a report published yesterday by Variety, Telltale Games was in talks with two very different companies to get funding that would have probably saved it. However, those discussions fell apart on Thursday and the following day, Telltale announced its upcoming closure.

　　The companies were AMC Networks, the New York-based entertainment company known primarily for its eponymous AMC cable channel, and Smilegate, the South Korean game developer known as the creator of CrossFire as well as the upcoming MMOARPG Lost Ark.

　　According to an update provided by Telltale yesterday, there's a chance The Final Season of The Walking Dead may be finished yet with the help of some partners.

　　Hi everyone, we have a Walking Dead update for you. Multiple potential partners have stepped forward to express interest in helping see The Final Season through to completion. While we can’t make any promises today, we are actively working towards a solution that will allow Episodes 3 and 4 to be completed and released in some form. In the meantime, Episode 2 will release tomorrow across all platforms as planned. We hope to have answers for all your other questions soon.

　　Let's hope this deal comes through. As pointed out by Nathan in his review of Episode 2 (out now), it would be a shame if the series got to an abrupt halt.

　　As a middle chapter of what was supposed to be a four-part series, The Walking Dead: The Final Season Episode 2 gets the job done just fine. It gets a bit bogged down in plot, but still delivers some moving scenes and interesting new and returning characters. As possibly the final statement of one of the best narrative video game developers of all time, it's a crushing disappointment. Here’s hoping the remainder of The Walking Dead: The Final Season can somehow rise from the grave.
