More than 7 million of Steam's 65 million members logged in on Sunday, December 1, setting a new record for peak concurrent usage. This is up from 6 million last year.
The data comes from Valve's own Steam Statistics page, which shows the exact peak figure was 7,190,547. There are currently 5,613,480 people logged onto Steam.
The milestone was reached over the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States and during Valve's annual Steam Autumn Sale, which ends tomorrow.
The most popular game on Steam, by a large margin, is Dota 2--more than 260,000 people are playing the game right now. The next closest is Counter Strike: Global Offensive, with more than 66,500 people playing right now.
