SegaSoft Shake-Up-May 2024
May 15, 2025 3:11 AM

SegaSoft last week laid off ten people from a number of departments including testing, support, and product development, the company confirmed today. The reductions - not publicized by the Redwood City, Calif.-based company - come as SegaSoft continues to redefine its role in the gaming industry and continues on its path from a retail games publisher to a network gaming company. The reductions reduce the SegaSoft staff by about ten percent to 110 employees.

A SegaSoft spokesperson told GameSpot News today that it continues to focus more and more on Internet play via its Heat.net online gaming service and is also placing greater resources into gearing up for Dreamcast Internet play. "We need to start looking at adjusting our staff to network development," the spokesperson said today.

In addition, the company is focusing on expanding the Heat.net presence internationally.

In related SegaSoft news, the Vigilance team is currently at work on a patch to the just-released game and is aiming for a December release. The patch will contain bug fixes, performance optimization as it applies to memory management, and will add another deathmatch level. As expected, the patch will be available as a download off of Heat.net and the Vigilance web site.
