Assassin's Creed Unity, the new Assassin's Creed game coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC later this year, is set to include a cooperative mode for up to four players, according to a report.
This information comes by way of tweets sent out by former NeoGAF poster shinobi602, who indicated two demos for Unity are planned for E3 in June. One of these will focus on Unity's single-player mode, while the other will put the spotlight on a new, four-player co-op mode. No details regarding the latter were shared except to say it's a "separate narrative," as opposed to a mode allowing players to tackle the single-player campaign together.
Lending further credence to this is a Ubisoft source who spoke with The Escapist and confirmed both the existence of a co-op mode in Unity and plans for it to be unveiled at E3.
On the record, Ubisoft unsurprisingly won't confirm anything. The publisher said in a statement issued to GameSpot, "Ubisoft does not comment on rumors or speculation."
This would not be the first instance of multiplayer support in an Assassin's Creed game. 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood introduced multiplayer to the series for the first time after the first two games were single-player-only. Subsequent games have built on Brotherhood's multiplayer offerings, but these modes primarily pit individuals or teams of players against each other.
Unity was announced by Ubisoft late last month after images of the game leaked online. It's set during the French Revolution and will be released later this year, possibly in addition to another new game--Assassin's Creed Comet--which is reportedly being developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and will put players in the shoes of a Templar.
