May 11, 2025 1:43 AM

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will receive a demo one week ahead of the game's official launch on January 18, according to a leaked trailer.

The news looks to have been meant as an announcement at The Game Awards 2023, where Ubisoft already confirmed it will be debuting a new story trailer as part of the show. In the trailer, the game's new main character, Sargon, is tasked with rescuing Prince Ghassan, even as time itself begins to unravel and Sargon is faced with monstrous foes that defy reality.

Now Playing: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Trailer | Summer Game Fest 2023

According to the trailer, which has since been set to "private" on YouTube but can still be found on X (formerly Twitter), players will be able to try out a demo for the new metroidvania-inspired, 2D Prince of Persia title on January 11. Though the full game releases on January 18, those who preorder the deluxe edition or who are members of Ubisoft+ will get three days early access on January 15. It's currently unclear if progress made in the demo will carry over to the full game. Preordering will additionally unlock a skin for Sargon inspired by the look of the Prince in 2004's Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was announced earlier this year as part of Summer Game Fest, and is the first new Prince of Persia game in 13 years. Ubisoft is additionally working on a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which served as a reboot for the long dormant franchise back when it first released in 2003.

The Sands of Time remake was first announced in 2020, but has since been delayed twice following reports of a troubled development, with development on the project more recently shifting from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal. It, however, is far from the only Ubisoft title to be stuck in development limbo. Skull and Bones, Ubisoft's pirate game inspired by Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, was first shown in 2017, but has since been delayed multiple times. Ubisoft most recently pushed Skull and Bones to sometime between January and March 2024 following a closed beta in August.
