Our team's mission at onGamers
Our team's mission at onGamers-May 2024
May 16, 2025 9:07 AM

This article was originally published on GameSpot's sister site onGamers.com, which was dedicated to esports coverage.

  Hello everyone,

During the past few days we have received a lot of comments and questions, and as Editor-in-Chief of onGamers I'll try to address them here.

As an esports media our job is to report honestly and truthfully from the frontlines of esports. From time to time our reporting won't always be particular welcomed by teams, tournaments, leagues, publishers, developers or others simply because the reporting will be about them. This is unfortunate, but we will report news with journalistic integrity and as honest and truthfully as it is within our power to do. This is our pledge to you.

Earlier this week we broke the story about Riot Games and their LCS player contracts. We didn't do this to be the "wikileaks of esports" as we have been accused of. We did this because it's an interesting story with a number of consequences for the entire esports eco-system. And it is a story we will continue to mention, as we try to offer as much perspective as we possibly can. Our job, as an independent esports media, is to tell those stories like this. Our mission is to inform you, our readers, audience and customers, about everything we think you'll find interesting in esports.

If we did anything less than this, what would be the point of an independent media brand to begin with? How could you ever trust us, if we didn't report on a story like this?

Now, make no mistake. We want to work with everyone in esports. From publishers, developers, teams, players, events, leagues, tournaments, investors, everyone - to further the growth of esports and create a better environment for everyone. We want nothing more than our universe to get bigger and more professional. Honestly, we would also love to be friends with everyone, the world is a better place when we all work together and respect each other.

But we will not let friendship, respect or fear of repercussions hold us back from reporting the facts. And when and if companies deploy fear tactics or discriminate against us, we will inform our readers about it. Not to be a tabloid media, not to be a wikileaks ripoff, not to get revenge, but because we are a media brand that will tell the stories that deserve to be told. We believe that fans, followers and customers in esports deserve nothing less from onGamers, or from all the other esports media brands out there.

As of today onGamers has been online for a month. During our first month we have covered five events on-site, our staff has flown over 30,000 miles and we have published 433 news, features and videos. And we will continue to work incredibly hard to inform, educate and entertain you.

  Thank you for reading.

  Kim Rom

  Editor-in-Chief for onGamers
