New Resident Evil 4 Update Seemingly Lowers Image Quality and Performance on Xbox While Improving PS5 Visuals
May 20, 2024 3:46 AM

Capcom has deployed a new Resident Evil 4 update which seemingly improves the game's image quality on PS5 and fixes the annoying deadzone issue on Xbox Series X|S.

Aside from the above-mentioned changes, this new patch adds support for today's "The Mercenaries" game mode (which already became available yesterday in some regions). In addition, this new patch aims to improve framerates on Xbox Series by improving the graphics rendering process. On PlayStation 5, Capcom has released a fix for the graphics rendering process as well. On Sony's console, however, this fix aims to address an issue that caused some environmental details to look blurry.

Based on user experiences, this new update does indeed reduce the deadzone on Xbox, but aiming is still harder on Microsoft's console compared to aiming on PlayStation and PC. In addition, although this patch aims to improve performance on Xbox consoles, it appears that the update does in fact result in worse image quality and performance on Microsoft's consoles.

Here's what Reddit user 'Gwynblood' had to say about today's update:

"With the latest update the game now looks worse and blurrier in every mode, whether it's Resolution or Framerate mode", the post reads. The user adds, "Xbox now also suffers from aliasing/shimmering that wasn't an issue before. The PS5 version, which had this problem before the patch, is now fixed and sharper."

From the looks of it, Capcom still has work to do on the Xbox version as the above-mentioned Reddit user isn't the only one reporting worse image quality on Xbox consoles. Performance appears to be a bit of mixed bag depending on which visual mode you're playing the game on and whether you're using VRR. We'll update you as soon as more information about this matter comes in. How's your gameplay experience after playing the game with today's update? On what platform are you playing? Resident Evil 4 Remake is available globally now for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. As reported earlier today, Capcom already managed to sell over 4 million copies of the game in just two weeks.
