Dignitas has been the highlight of week 2 so far. Their victories over XDG and Evil Geniuses have shown a completely different team from last season. While Imaqtpie was extending his 4 game win streak with Jinx, the Evil Geniuses and XDG fell further behind the pack. Their losses yesterday put them in a tie for last place. Counter Logic Gaming struggled against the star studded Team Solo Mid, and couldn’t keep their head above water. HotShotGG’s lack of experience in the mid lane was no match for Bjergsen’s pedigree, which ultimately led to CLG’s demise.
Today’s looking like it’s going to be a nail biter. Let’s dive into the upcoming matches.
XDG (1-4) vs EG (1-4) | Head to Head: (1-0)
Both XDG and the Evil Geniuses have an uphill battle after only 5 games in the LCS. Evil Geniuses are still working out the kinks that comes with a recently formed team. Meanwhile, XDG is still trying to adjust to their roleswap with Zuna in the jungle and Xmithie on AD. In XDG’s most recent game, we saw a return of the famed “Vulcun Throwbargians” when they handed the game away to Dignitas. In addition, the team’s star midlaner, mancloud, isn’t getting rolling like he used to anymore. Zuna prefers to focus on the top lane more often, leaving mancloud on his own.
In Evil Geniuses case, they will need to improve with time. Despite 3 of the members playing together for so long, the team still has clear synergy issues. Their champion select can be a tad wonky at times and shoots them in the foot before they even load onto the rift. Coming into the split, it seemed like the team’s bot lane would be their strongest asset, but even Pete and Krepo haven’t shown the greatest display of skill.
Matchup to Watch: Jungle - Zuna & Snoopeh. Both of these players have yet to prove themselves in the NA LCS, and this match is certainly an opportunity to do so.
Team Coast (2-3) vs Team Solo Mid (4-1)
Evil Geniuses aren’t the only ones struggling in the bottom lane. Coast’s bot lane has been severely lacking, a shadow of their former challenger scene dominance. Nintendudex is also struggling in the jungle, failing to have meaningful ganks. If Coast can find a way to get the bot lane and jungle to mesh, they could solve some major problems in a heart beat.
We all expected it, Team Solo Mid is on a roll. The addition of Bjergsen has made them arguably the best incarnation of the team so far. His ability to crush lane every time is something that Reginald lacked, and adds another level of complexity to defeating TSM. Coast may be able to exploit TSM’s weakest point, the jungle. In their previous matches, TheOddOne can feel like a weak link, lagging behind the star talent on the teams roster.
Matchup to Watch: Bot Lane - WizfujiiN and Daydreamin vs WildTurtle Xpecial. Coast’s bot lane needs some redemption, and defeating WildTurtle and Xpecial would be a stellar start.
Cloud 9 (3-1) vs Team Curse (3-2)
Despite an unexpected loss to Dignitas, Cloud 9 still looks like they are at the top of North America. Their synergy is like none other in NA, and plays a crucial part in all of their victories. In the top lane, Balls may go unnoticed by fans, but his presence is felt in game. He consistently goes even or ahead in all of his lanes, and cleans up teamfights in the mid game.
So far, Curse’s retooled roster looks promising. Overall, IWillDominate has been a solid addtion to the team, despite some unfortunate missteps. Voyboys move to midlane has worked out well, as he continues to show that he can go toe to toe with veteran mid players. In the bot lane, Cop is displaying a performance reminiscent of the previous summer split.
Matchup to Watch: Mid Lane - Hai & Voyboy. So far, both of these players have has strong performances, but all eyes will be on voyboy to see if he can deal with Hai’s mid lane experience.
Team Dignitas (4-2) vs Counter Logic Gaming (2-3) | Head to Head (0-1)
A rocky start to the LCS made it seem like Dignitas wasn’t going to be able to cope with North American talent. But, an upset over Cloud 9 and a 4 game win streak have made Dignitas the team to watch. The KiwiPie bot lane is using their own weapon of mass destruction: Jinx. Imaqtpie is able to clean up fights by speeding in and out of the enemy’s hands. In the mid lane, Scarra has shown excellent performances on Ziggs and Gragas. The team now has a designated shotcaller in their jungler, Crumbz.
Just when it seemed like it was CLG’s time to shine, they hit another roadblock. Dexter, CLG’s jungler, being barred from the United States has created an interesting situation for the team. Link, a well rounded player, filled in the jungle so HotShotGG could play the mid lane. Considering his lack of time to prepare, HotShot has had a solid performance, but not the performance that CLG needs.
“Tried my best, just wasn't good enough to match up to LCS level in 2 weeks. Hopefully [Dexter] comes back soon, we need him.” - HotShottGG
Matchup to Watch: Mid Lane - Scarra & HotShotGG. Scarra has been on a roll recently, it’s going to be difficult for HotShot to face off versus a veteran mid player.
All the games kick off at 12PM PST / 9 PM CET on lolesports.com
