JK Simmons Could Return For More Spider-Man Films
JK Simmons Could Return For More Spider-Man Films-May 2024
May 18, 2025 10:19 PM

A year ago, Spider-Man: Far From Home hit theaters with a special post-credits scene surprise--the return of J.K. Simmons' iconic take on comics' most notorious news mogul, J. Jonah Jameson. This also marked the first time an actor has made the jump from a non-MCU Marvel film into the MCU while playing the same character. We suppose it's not too late for Chris Evans to return not as Steve Rogers but as Johnny Storm. Never say never.

Now, Simmons has confirmed via a video interview with People's Couch Surfing that he has signed on to reprise his role in future MCU films, beyond the unnamed Far From Home follow-up. "When we signed on for the first movie, we signed a contract to do two sequels as well," Simmons explained. "That's always a one-sided [...] contract where, you know, you're committed to do it but they're not necessarily committed to using your character in ensuing movies. So it's a great opportunity to have these things evolve."

Now Playing: Spider-Man: Far From Home Post-Credits Scenes Explained! (SPOILERS)

From the sound of things, Simmons is contractually obligated to return as ol' Triple J should Sony and Marvel have need for him, but the studios may not need him after all. It depends, as Simmons says, on the evolution of the story. Judging by the post-credits scene that introduced Simmons' Jameson into the MCU--which also simultaneously outed Peter Parker's secret identity to the world--the character is likely to be a major part of the ongoing Spider-Man story for the long haul, even if it is just via video broadcasts in Time Square.

Sony's upcoming slate of movies, including the non-MCU Marvel movie Morbius, have been delayed thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the unnamed Far From Home sequel is not on the release schedule for Marvel Studios.
