TOKYO - July 8, a consortium of major software companies filed a lawsuit in an Osaka District Court against a local merchant who sells used video games.
Six companies claim that the unauthorized selling of used games violates current copyright law. This time around they accused Act, a used-game chain that has 244 shops throughout Japan, of illegally selling used games.
Companies involved in the suit include Capcom, Konami, Namco, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Square, and Sega. Five companies filed a similar lawsuit back in June. But this time around, Sega has jumped on the bandwagon.
Responding to this allegation, Act says it welcomes the lawsuit because the issue will then be judged by the courts as to whether the unauthorized selling of used games is illegal or not.
