TOKYO--Game Republic today announced the launch of its official Web site, almost a year after it was founded by former Capcom executive director Yoshiki Okamoto. Up until now, all of the company's information and recruitment postings appeared exclusively on Okamoto's personal Web site.
The official site offers a more in-depth overview of Game Republic, as well as detailed explanations of what kind of staff the company is looking to employ. Officially founded on July 1, 2003, Game Republic has a capital fund of 17.6 million yen ($161,877) and has issued 500 shares of stock valued at around 50,000 yen ($460) each.
Game Republic currently has a total of 67 employees in its three studios, which are located in Osaka, Tokyo, and Nagoya. Additional employees are being recruited this month.
Details on Game Republic's current projects are scarce at present, but it's known that the Nagoya studio is working on a game for a currently unspecified platform and that the Tokyo studio is working on a game in collaboration with Sony Computer Entertainment. The company is also developing a board game, which has long been a hobby of Okamoto's.
"I've been working in the videogame industry for about 20 years, of which seven years I've carried out the role of an executive and took part in the management of a company. I began feeling that I wanted to make a company where I could adhere to my beliefs in the creation of digital entertainment, which is why I established Game Republic," reads a quote from Okamoto on the site. "I named the company Game Republic because I wanted it to be like a republic where all the staff would have equal privileges and responsibilities; a place where they could create their big dreams."
Although the newly launched official Game Republic site will replace Okamoto's personal site for the most part, Okamoto will continue to update his site's online diary, in which he discusses his recent activities and those of the company.
