Fox Is In "Active Creative Discussions" To Revive 24-May 2024

Fox is reportedly in "active creative discussions" to revive the terrorism drama series 24, according to Deadline. Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn recently told the publication that there is "potential" that the show will return in some form--which means this may or may not happen, and may wind up taking some drastically different shape than future reports may suggest.

"There's still a possibility, there's still some discussions with the producers on a take that we have yet to hear," said Thorn. "There [are] some active creative discussions that are happening."

Thorn's comments, as Deadline also points out, echo recent sentiments from 24 executive producer Howard Gordon (Homeland) indicating that the network and creative team is "always percolating" on how to bring the series back. As we approach the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the notion of bringing the show back is potentially fraught but of course intriguing. The original show premiered on November 6, 2001--but audiences in 2021 would likely be far more critical of a pro-torture and otherwise racially problematic show.

24 was created by Joel Surnow (Small Time) and Robert Cochran (JAG), and starred Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer. The original series ran for nine seasons and also expanded into a film, which is a mighty long time for a series of 24-hour periods to last.
