Back in May, Brazilian sportsman Ronaldinho was revealed as the star of the box art for FIFA 08 for the third year running, along with becoming a Mii in-game in the Wii version. Now Konami has announced its own star for rival footie title Pro Evolution Soccer 2008--Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo will be joined by "selected local talent" whose names will be announced at a later date. A virtual Ronaldo shows off his ball skills.
Ronaldo was born in Portugal, and started playing football when he was only three years old. The now-22-year-old plays for the Portuguese national squad, as well as Manchester United--where the youngster took over the number 7 shirt previously held by David Beckham. He won both the Professional Footballers' Association's 2007 Player and Young Player of the Year awards.
PES 2008 will offer a number of extra features over the previous incarnation of the game--Pro Evolution Soccer 2007--including a new Teamvision AI system, and extensive edit options in the next-generation game versions.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is due for release in Autumn for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo DS in Europe. No North American date has yet been set, but previous PES games have shipped on the continent several months after their European release.
