Last week, Rabid Entertainment showed two of its latest projects - Violent Seed, an overhead shooter for the Sony PlayStation, and Septerra Core, a role-playing game for the PC CD-ROM (and hopefully a console release as well).
The Septerra story takes place in a land created by a mysterious ancient being. At Septerra's core is a living computer, which holds the secrets of why the world was created and the mysteries behind its creator. The world is made up of seven layers, the top being inhabited by the Chosen, who in turn dump their waste on the other, lower layers. The Chosen have begun to unlock the key that will allow them to attain the power that is referred to as the Gift of the Creator. As the Chosen work their way down to the Core, war looms. As the player fight for his country as part of World Shell 2, he discovers the Chosen's plans and goes to unlock the power first.
Combining elements from science fiction and mythology, the Septerra Core team has woven a story that twists and turns through 15 chapters of gameplay. While remaining fast-paced, the game combines elements of console role-players and those of the best PC adventures. Battle includes a card system allowing players to customize attacks against enemies.
The first thing players will notice about Septerra Core is the highly detailed art and character design present in the game. The backgrounds and environments present in the game have been designed with a careful attention to detail.
The game is due to hit retail in the first quarter of 1998 for Windows 95. A console release is possible but not planned at this time.
