Electronic Arts stopped by our offices with a near-final version of Need for Speed: High Stakes on Thursday. It'd been six weeks since we'd seen a previewable copy of the game, and it's coming along nicely.
One area we focused on playing (as you can tell from the screenshots) was the expanded hot pursuit mode. In it, you can now play as the police car and chase down speeding cars (this was present in the PC version of the last NFS game, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit).
In the two-player version of hot pursuit, players alternate between a speeding driver and a policeman. The speeder tries to outrun the cop while the cop stays in hot pursuit. Our initial reaction is that it's pretty neat.
Look for it to be released on the PlayStation next month (with the possibility of Namco JogCon support). For more information and shots of the game, check out the preview.
