With all the other announcements about Intel's new graphics chip, Diamond Multimedia announced that it would offer a new Intel i740 chip-based AGP 2X graphics board for the Pentium II that will come to market for mainstream users sometime late in the first quarter of 1998.
"As the leading provider of graphics subsystems, Diamond is renowned for delivering the highest performing solutions for every PC computing platform," said Scott Vouri, vice president and general manager of the graphics business unit at Diamond Multimedia. "AGP is an exciting new growth opportunity, enabling advanced high-quality 3D, 2D, and video for the mainstream PC consumer."
Many of Diamond's OEM and VAR customers have already taken on AGP in many of their systems, and the i740 will extend the company's other AGP products including the Permedia2-based fire GL 1000 Pro, the nVidia RIVA 128-based Viper 330, and the S3 ViRGE GX-2-based Stealth 3D 4000.
