  Greetings pilot,

  It's your lucky day. I know you've only recently begun your pilot training with the ISC, but it looks like we'll be accelerating your timeline. We'll be sending you on your first mission, pronto. Techs are already warming up the plane for you.

  A hitherto undetected meteor shower will be passing through this region of space within the next hour. Unfortunately, all of Sycamore Station's defenses are down for maintenance, which means we're sitting ducks. The commander has ordered all capable spacecraft to launch immediately with weapons hot. And since we're short on pilots, you'll be going with them.

  Don't worry, I've seen your scores in the simulations. Those asteroids are tough, but they ain't invincible. Just hit them with a well-placed HE round and they'll turn to dust. Just watch out for the big ones; they may take a couple hits.

  Make us proud, pilot. The lives of everyone on this station are depending on you.

PERSEIDAI

  Perseidai is a modern take on the arcade classic, where you blast apart asteroids from your spaceship. Spaceship controls are vaguely Newtonian, and you fly through toroidal space. Watch out for asteroids flying around from the other side of the screen!

  Perseidai is my first game. It's simple and straight forward, as I wanted to push something out for the world to see and prove that I can make a game. I've dabbled in Unity for years just for fun, and have a variety of prototypes sitting in storage, but have never actually released something before.

  So here's my first one. My intent is to start off small and eventually work my way up to finally realizing some of the bigger ideas I've envisioned. As such, this project likely won't receive many updates from here on out, but I may come back to it when it strikes my fancy. I hope it gives you a bit of fun, and please post your high score in the comments!

  

CONTROLS

While the controls are straightforward, handling a spaceship is no easy task! That's why you're a trained a pilot, trusted to defend Sycamore Station with your keen reflexes and aptitude for flying. Here's how to control your ship:

  Controls

  FORWARD THRUST - W or UP ARROW

  ROTATE LEFT - A or LEFT ARROW

  ROTATE RIGHT - D or RIGHT ARROW

  SHOOT - SPACE or MOUSE 1

  In space, an object in motion stays in motion. This applies to your spaceship as well, and once you start moving, you'll keep moving. To stop or change direction, you'll need to turn and apply thrust in the direction you want to accelerate, or to cancel out your existing motion.

  Your spaceship, the S/A-12 Ridgeback, is equipped with a single 20mm cannon firing high velocity HE shells in three-round bursts. Simply aim and hold the trigger to fire a burst, or tap the trigger once to fire a single round. The autoloader mechanism inside the craft will reload automatically once you've fired all available rounds.
