Phoenix Suns Will Play The Remainder Of Its Season In NBA 2K20 On Twitch-May 2024
May 13, 2025 11:38 PM

The NBA has suspended its season after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 (the coronavirus). It's unclear at this point if the season will continue after the minimum 30-day hiatus, or if this marks the end of the current NBA season. The Phoenix Suns are determined to see out the rest of their schedule, however, and have turned to video games to do so.

The Western Conference team has announced plans to play out the remainder of its season using NBA 2K20. In a post on Twitter, the Suns revealed that it will be using the popular basketball game to complete the team's schedule, with each game streaming live on Twitch. The first matchup takes place tomorrow, March 14, when the virtual Suns will be taking on the virtual Dallas Mavericks.

  The season isn’t over yet...

We will continue to play the Suns season games on @NBA2K!

Saturday’s game will be moved to tomorrow. Join us live on @Twitch as we take on the @dallasmavs! pic.twitter.com/745QIuvCMc

  — Phoenix Suns (@Suns) March 13, 2020

The tweet doesn't mention any details about who will be hosting the stream, or if the games will be played by real people or NBA 2K20's AI. Devin Booker, the Suns' star shooting guard, is a well-known Twitch streamer himself, and even found out about the season's suspension while streaming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It would make sense for the Suns to get him involved in some capacity.

The results of these games might be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but the Suns' live streams ensure that there will still be some NBA action to watch even as the league suspends all play. If some of the players are involved then it should be worth watching.

NBA 2K20 isn't safe from the effects of COVID-19, though. The NBA's shutdown is causing issues with 2K20's MyLeague mode in an unexpected development. The virus also continues to wreak havoc throughout the entertainment world, with numerous events being cancelled, multiple movies being delayed, and a laundry list of theme parks closing their doors.

The CDC has many precautions you can take in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus as well as some helpful tips to stay healthy.
